Music and Choir

Our Special Christmas Choir
for the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols
Sunday 17 December

The Christmas Choir leads the singing of all those great congregational carols and has its own songs, too - all helping tell the Christmas story.

And all done twice on the same day, to fit everyone in.

We're looking for people who can sing SATB (especially T) with confidence - or are ready to give it a go.

If that's you then do get in touch with Nick Howe the Chaplain or Christine Morgan our musician.

Here's the schedule:

Rehearsals:
Sunday 3 December, 12.30-13.45 - the first gathering
Sunday 10 December, 12.30-15.00 - with soup!
Saturday 16 December, 10.00-12.30 - it all comes together...
Sunday 17 December, 14.00-15.00 - the finishing touches

Nine Lessons and Carols
16.00 - Service number 1
18.00 - Service number 2

And if you know somebody else who would enjoy taking part, do let them know. The more the merrier!

Music in Worship

Our music is in the very capable hands of Christine Morgan our organist and choir director, who teaches at the Opera Högskolan.

The liturgical music we use Sunday by Sunday has been especially written for this congregation by her husband Murdo.

Our Choir is made up of people from the congregation. They support the congregational singing, and they offer an anthem once a fortnight or so.

At Christmas time the regular choir is augmented for our service of 9 Lessons and Carols. and twice a year it sings the service of Choral Evensong according to the 1662 Book of Common Prayer.

Christine brings to bear the skills she uses in her work at Opera Högskolan so the Choir is coached with care and expertise.

If you can sing SATB she would be delighted to hear from you.Especially if you are a tenor! You'll find her email here.

The choir practises from 10.00 to 10.45 and 12.30 to 13.30 on Sunday and tends to take time off over the summer  (though singers are always welcome to robe and sing any time).
