Love bids us welcome

Lent 2025

For forty days and forty nights we join Jesus in the wilderness.

And as he spent that time wrestling with what it meant to be God’s Son, so we engage, body and soul, with what it means to be children of God.

You may choose to fast in some way: educating your desire, while putting into practice that ancient wisdom:

‘God is found in the soul not by adding anything but by a process of subtraction...’

To support you in your chosen discipline - and to help us all lead a holy, good and joyful Lent - we are offering a range of activities.

Do send in the form if you’d like to know more about taking part.

Ash Wednesday Service

Wednesday 5 March, 19.30, Church

‘Remember that you are dust…’

Solemn and joyful worship.

We mark the start of Lent and mark our mortal selves with the dust and ashes we have in common with one another and with all creation - and with our God in Jesus Christ.

Still With God - Contemplative Prayer

Weekdays, 15-20 minutes any time, anywhere

‘Be still and know that I am God…’

Being part of our Lent virtual Contemplative Prayer Group. Giving time and space somewhere in your day to sit quietly, to attend to your breath.

To be present, to be open, to be awake, within the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.

With simple guidance and a partner in prayer for togetherness, and the chance of a check-up from time to time with Nick Howe our Chaplain

Practising the Way

Tuesdays, 18.00, Church

‘An introduction to spiritual formation…’

Join our Young Adults Group, test-driving this course together: eight sessions of teaching, guided conversation, and spiritual exercises designed to lay a foundation for lifelong apprenticeship to Jesus.

Based on the book by John Mark Comer.

Starting the week before Lent and ending the week after Easter.

Hosted by Celicia Svärd.

Virtual Lent Bible Study Group

Tuesdays, 20.30, Zoom

‘Hugely heartening…’

Join in from wherever you are as we read and consider together Wild Bright Hope.

This Lent book for 2025 "urges us not only to embrace a more hopeful perspective, but also to consider how we ourselves might play a full part in bringing in the kingdom of God."

Hosted by Eoin Phillips.

Compline Night Prayer

Weekdays and Sundays, 21.30-21.45, Zoom

‘Ending as we mean to go on…’

Reflecting on and setting down the day, finished and unfinished, and handing it - and ourselves - over to God for the night.

A simple pattern of prayer, with the chance to say Goodnight.

Lent Mini Retreat

Saturday 5 April, 09.30-14.00, Church

‘Come away to a quiet place by yourselves...’

Get away from the everyday for a while, to practise the presence of God in and around the church.

With reflections and exercises led by spiritual director Chris Peterson and chaplain Nick Howe.

Suitable for beginners and others.
